Compare Your Footprint is a founding member of the Carbon Accounting Alliance (CAA), launched to strengthen oversight and professional standards across the carbon accounting industry. Alongside sister organisation Green Element, we joined at launch to help raise the quality of measurement, disclosure and collaboration across software providers, consultancies and related bodies.

Why the Alliance exists

Carbon accounting has grown quickly. That growth brings inconsistent methods, uneven evidence standards and confusion for organisations trying to compare tools. The Alliance was created to encourage greater professionalisation, share practice, and support more rigorous standards.

Our role as a founding member

Emma Littlewood, Green Element Group Strategy Director and creator of Compare Your Footprint, has represented the Group in Alliance discussions. That includes policy engagement — for example meeting DESNZ with other Alliance members to help inform climate-reporting conversations.

What this means for customers

  • We treat methodology transparency as a product requirement, not a marketing claim.
  • We align reporting to recognised frameworks such as the GHG Protocol and UK SECR-style disclosure needs.
  • We collaborate across the industry where shared standards help organisations measure more consistently.

Membership does not replace your own inventory quality. It signals that Compare Your Footprint is built to participate in the professionalisation of carbon accounting, not sit outside it.
