Bowmark Capital needed a scalable way to help its portfolio companies understand, track, and reduce their carbon footprints in response to increasing investor scrutiny of ESG performance. Each portfolio company required:

• A comprehensive carbon footprint assessment covering:
  • Office operations (energy use, waste, commuting)
  • Business travel (air, rail, road, accommodation)
  • Procurement and supply chain emissions
  • Digital infrastructure and networks (data centres, cloud services, devices)
• A tailored decarbonisation roadmap including:
  • Baseline emissions and material hotspots across Scopes 1, 2, and relevant Scope 3 categories
  • Science-based reduction targets aligned with a 1.5°C pathway
  • Prioritised abatement levers (e.g. energy efficiency, renewable procurement, supplier engagement, travel policies, digital optimisation)
  • Clear KPIs, timelines, and governance to track progress

This approach enabled Bowmark’s portfolio to build robust, investor-ready sustainability credentials while embedding carbon management into day-to-day decision-making and long-term value creation.

Solution

Compare Your Footprint partnered with Bowmark to deliver detailed carbon footprint reports for each portfolio company, covering all major emission sources: offices, business travel, procurement, and digital networks.

For every company, CYF:

• Identified key carbon hotspots
• Produced a prioritised action plan
• Developed tailored carbon reduction strategies aligned with Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) guidance

Immediate portfolio-wide reduction measures included:

• Implementing sustainable travel policies (prioritising rail, using air travel only when necessary)
• Switching office electricity supplies to 100% renewable tariffs
• Purchasing more sustainable or refurbished equipment
• Supporting employees with guidance on energy-efficient homeworking practices

Outcome

Portfolio companies have established carbon baselines, identified emissions hotspots, and begun implementing immediate reduction measures, driving coordinated climate action across the portfolio.
